What’s Involved

Let the museum come to you and get hands on with history at your own pace. Use this curated box of handling objects to spark conversations and reflect on changes over time. This loan box contains objects from a variety of faiths and celebrations, ideal for supporting class learning.

What's in the box

  • ISLAMIC ARTEFACTS -including The Koran, prayer beads, compass, tape (call to prayer), Eid greetings cars, Prayer Mat
  • HINDU ARTEFACTS - including Ha Garland, Manjira Cymbals, Mehndi pattern book, Clay Diva Lamps
  • CHRISTIAN ARTEFACTS -including Bible, Cross, Advent Candle, Christmas Cards
  • JEWISH ARTEFACTS -including Prayer Shawl, Kippah -skull cap, Chanukah Lamp, Scroll and cloth case
  • CHINESE NEW YEAR ARTEFACTS - including Chinese lantern, Chinese Dragon, Chopsticks, Chinese Astrological Chart, wind-chimer

Please note: All ‘Museum In A Box’ loan boxes need to be collected from and returned to Portland Basin Museum. As these loan boxes are part of our handling collection, from time to time we may need to remove or replace some objects.

The box dimensions are approximately 520mm x 440mm x 310mm

Cost: £41 per week (or £7 per day for community groups)
