The final family food event of 2023 will have all the festive feels!

The December Fridays on the Square is upon us, and the final Ashton foodie family event of 2023 looks like it’s shaping up to be a spirited one!

This month’s event will have a distinctly Bavarian Christmas vibe with oompah bands and mulled wine, and creative children will be in for a treat with a festive-themed arts and crafts workshop.

The proceedings will be peppered by performances by Manchester entertainment band, The Jäger Maestros. An authentic German Oompah band with a refreshingly modern difference, the collective comprises seven of the country’s finest brass players - and an irrepressible stand-up comic as front-man.

Other musical performances will include The Humbuckers and Parkbridge Music who will be taking to the stage to provide revellers with a cracking party atmosphere.

Kids will delight in roving festive characters to capture some “elfies” with. The National Elf Service’s Christmas elves will be on hand to bring laughter and joy to Ashton with a walkabout bursting with music, magic and merriment.  They can also take part in a festive arts and crafts workshop with esteemed illustrator, artist and craft tutor, Caroline Coates.

As always, there will be tasty food trucks and loca traders on hand providing the crowds with an array of tasty treats from some of Ashton’s favourite market traders including Nat’s Bombay Kitchen, Dina Persian as well street traders bringing festive fare like Gwafuvegan, Secret Garden and Grill Smoke BBQ and of course there’ll be drinks ranging from hot chocolate to mulled wine to help keep you cosy and warm.

At the same time, families can enjoy the Christmas Window Trail, which takes participants on a trail around Ashton’s town centre and independent shops, using a map to figure out the festive story. Twelve local businesses have teamed up with local artist Chris Anderson to unveil the magical window trail which provides a free and fun way to explore the town and local shops. For added fun, families can discover the name of two cheeky Christmas Elves by following the trail and finding the letters. The December Fridays on the Square event will take place in Ashton's Fletcher Square from 4pm - 8pm Friday 1st December. Find out more at www.intameside.co.uk/fridaysonthesquare
