Ready Steady Read! Tameside Libraries' book festival for children and young people is back for 2023! Now in its third year, the festival has connected thousands of children with authors and illustrators through school workshops and half term activities.
During the February half term, there is plenty of book related fun with comics workshops, author visits and family theatre. For children aged 6+ comic artist Marc Jackson will be at Dukinfield Library on Tuesday 21st February to help your little one draw their own cartoon characters. While teenagers can learn the basics of drawing their own comic strips and stories with comic artist Jim Medway in Ashton on Wednesday 22 February. Places are free but spaces are limited so please book in advance. You can find out more and book the sessions by clicking on the links in the text above.
In Ashton Library, Fidget Theatre present “The Adventures of Pirate Bonnie” on Monday, February 20, a swashbuckling family theatre adventure for 3 - 7 year olds and their grown ups. There will be performances at 11.30am and 2.30pm, find out more and book your tickets here.
There’s also the chance for families to meet two authors in person in libraries. Sean Perkins will be at Hattersley Library on Thursday 23 February 2.30 – 3.30pm to read his Oscar and Ben books and run some family activities, and on Friday 24 February 10.30-11.30am, Andrea Bowker will be at Denton Library with a story time and craft session based on her Rab the Rainbow Crab books. Both these author events are free to come along on the day, there’s no need to book.
Throughout the half term, all Tameside Libraries will also have self-led activities about countries and languages to celebrate International Mother Language Day. Opening times for libraries vary. You can find out opening times for your local library here.
