FAMILY theatre, festivals and pageants are among the highlights of the Stalybridge Town of Culture summer programme, announced this week.

Many of the cultural activities and opportunities will tie in with Street Fest, the town’s popular monthly street food and drink event in Armentieres Square.

But there are also an array of other events and activities for people to get involved in - including a Halle Orchestra concert in Stalybridge Civic Hall, a Swedish photography art exhibition in Astley Cheetham Gallery, heritage talks and creative workshops.

Mossley based festival arts organisation Global Grooves will recreate their section of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant held in London last weekend in a procession at Stalybridge Canal Festival in September.

There will also be pop-up family activities during the summer holidays.

The summer programme starts on a high note this Friday (10 June) with both the Whit Friday Brass Band contest and carnival inspired entertainment at Town of Culture Street Fest. Street Fest will also include indoor activities within Stalybridge Civic Hall and representatives for Town of Culture and the Stalybridge Heritage Action Zone will be on hand to tell visitors more about upcoming plans.

Tameside Council Assistant Executive Member Culture, Heritage & Digital inclusivity Cllr Sangita Patel said : “I’m so excited about our Stalybridge Town of Culture summer programme – it has something for everyone and really optimises on all the opportunities, creative talent and heritage offered in the town while also helping to build a lasting cultural legacy and identity.

“I would like to thank all our community partners who are working with us on developing such a rich and vibrant mix of opportunities. Do keep an eye on the InTameside website for up to date details on all the events and how to get involved.”
