Dancehall Dreams: From The Palais to Northern Soul brings the spirit of the dancehall roaring back to life. The evening opens with Palais de Danse by Miss High Leg Kick — an evocative, playful, multi-sensory reimagining of a late-1950s night out, filled with teenage rituals, rule-breaking dancers and the infectious joy of the Twist, Cha Cha and more. Then the floor is handed over to Hyde’s very own Northern Soul legends The Birtwistle Brothers, spinning real records for real people, taking us through the 60s and 70s with unstoppable grooves and a dancefloor that doesn’t quit.

Doors & Bar: 6:30pm

Palais de Danse: 7pm-7:30pm

Northern Soul Party: 7:30pm-10pm

PALAIS DE DANSE is a fun, engaging and accessible show with multi-generational appeal, celebrating the collective excitement of teenage nights on the dancefloor then and now. This interactive multi-sensory spectacle is Miss High Leg Kick’s offbeat, edgy, contemporary re-imagining of an era.

The Birtwistle Brothers are lifelong Northern Soul DJs with a deep-rooted love of the scene. From their regular Sunday Sessions at the White Lion in Hyde — held on the second Sunday of every month — to dancefloors across the UK and internationally, Steve and Dave bring real soul music for real people. Expect classic Northern Soul, talc on the floor, and a night made for dancing.

Transmission brings Tameside’s rich dance story to life — from the borough’s proud Morris traditions to its eras of ballroom elegance, Rock and Roll energy, Northern Soul passion and full‑throttle rave culture — through community engagement, live Morris and Ceilidh performances, participatory moments, Northern Soul sessions and thoughtful panel discussions.

Taking place across Friday 20 March and Saturday 21 March 2026, this evolving programme honours the past while inviting communities to help shape what dance means to Tameside today, forming a vibrant new celebration of the borough’s dance heritage produced in partnership by Tameside‑based artist and culture producer Sarah Hardacre and TMBC Cultural Services. Commissioned by Greater Manchester Arts and TMBC, Transmission is supported by GMCA Spirit and part‑funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
